Take what we need and leave the rest?

September 9th, 2009

There are some scenes I  see every day that make think of waste – waste of food, clothes, paper, many more. There are people digging in the trash for stuff, and other that throw away most of what they buy. People tend to want more – more clothes, more food, bigger TV, two cars, so on. But do we need all that?

Is it possible for someone to take just what they need, and leave the rest to others, or just to the nature? I don’t believe so. If that was the case we probably will be  still living in caves. So, to want more and more is good for development.

Yet – do we develop while buying more & more, then throwing away at least half of it? And for how long could the planet keep up with our greediness.

Actually i care about these problems, but i am not sure that i can do something really significant. Maybe this is a matter of lifestyle. I noticed, that i have at home too much unusable things, but i have it. Next time when i go to the store or supermarket, i will carefully buy stuff that i really need.
    thanks for your post.
